Tiffany Studios New York "Nasturtium" Favrile Stalactite Chandelier
An aura of warm iridescence radiates from this Tiffany Studios New York Favrile glass "Nasturtium" stalactite chandelier , enlivening its low inverted baluster form. The shade features cream colored nasturtium blossoms with green leaves set within a golden, translucent ground. The beauty of the glass technique comes not only from knowing that it was a marvelous technical innovation of its time, but also in the particularly romantic ocular effect it achieves. Through careful and innovative layering of glass forms, Louis Comfort Tiffany managed, in this shade, to create a soft and hazy, inviting and atmospheric effect in which the nasturtium blossoms appear as though within a pleasant mirage. Gold, green, and red iridescence are trapped between clear layers of glass giving this shade astounding levels of depth. We brought the light back to its former glory with custom-made Tiffany style hanging hardware.
