Rich in color yet restrained in design, this captivating pair of candlesticks from Tiffany Studios New York showcase gold iridescent pulled feather Favrile glass shades, perched on a bobèche adorned with an iridescent Favrile glass orb. These elements rest on a distinctive catspaw base, which includes a delicate gold iridescent stalactite suspended within. The artisans skillfully paired clear glass for the upper half of the shade with opaque gold iridescent glass for the lower, allowing the flame of a flickering candle to shine through while the shades emit a soft glow, even when unlit. Each shade extends gracefully into three catspaw feet resting on a circular platform, lending the design stability and a whimsical charm. Tiffany’s “catspaws” drew inspiration from the webbed toes of a drake, or male duck, adding a playful yet elegant touch to the classic candlestick form.
