Marcus & Co. Art Nouveau Opal and Gold Stick Pin

An American Art Nouveau 18 karat gold stick pin with enameling and opal by Marcus & Co. The stick pin has a cabochon opal surrounded with four enamel side sections decorated with gold relief arabesque designs. During the first decade of the twentieth century the firm offered a variety of Revivalist style jewelry. Egyptian inspired pieces along with Renaissance Revival and Mughal style were created. The venerable firm of Marcus & Co. was established in 1892 by William, Herman and George Elder Marcus with a shop in New York. The firm distinguished itself as an early proponent of the Art Nouveau style in America, of which this ring is an exquisite example. During the Art Deco period of the 1920's, the firm continued producing fine jewels in the new Art Deco style and expanded with branches in London, Paris, and Palm Beach.

Marcus & Company Art Nouveau Peridot, Diamond, Gold and Enamel Ring

An American Art Nouveau gold, peridot, diamond and enamel ring by Marcus & Co. The unique Renaissance Revival motif features green enameled 18-karat gold, two round-cut peridots totaling approximately 1.60 carats, and 30 round-cut diamonds that weigh approximately 1.20 carats. The Renaissance Revival design influence is carried onto the ring shank culminating in a diamond set into the ring shank bottom. During the first decade of the twentieth century Marcus & Co. offered a variety of Revivalist style jewelry. Egyptian inspired pieces along with Renaissance Revival and Mughal style which were created. Marcus & Co. was also one of the few firms in the United States to create jewelry featuring plique-a-jour enameling, a trend very popular in French Art Nouveau jewelry of the time. They also offered the standard diamond and platinum jewelry popular at the time. Each piece was meticulously crafted, and though there are no official documents crediting George Marcus with the design of the pieces, his credits at the Boston Arts and Crafts Exhibition and later Exhibition at the Rhode Island School of Design attest to his design standing. Marcus & Company Art Nouveau Blue Sapphire, Old European Diamond, Gold and Enamel Ring

An American Art Nouveau 18 karat gold and enamel, sapphire and diamond ring by Marcus & Co. The ring has a cushion-cut blue sapphire with an approximate weight of 8.65 carats, and 27 old European-cut diamonds with an approximate total weight of .32 carat. The blue sapphire is most likely of Ceylon origin with no heat treatment evident. The center stone is held in place with gold tendrils that flow throughout the ring in extravagant Art Nouveau motifs. During the first decade of the twentieth century Marcus & Co. offered a variety of Revivalist style jewelry. Egyptian inspired pieces along with Renaissance Revival and Mughal style were created. Marcus & Co. Art Nouveau Pearl, Diamond and Emerald Brooch

An Art Nouveau brooch with pearls, diamonds and emerald by Marcus & Co. The brooch has 10 semi-spherical pearls, 15 Old European cut diamonds with an approximate total weight of 1.25 carats and a polished emerald drop. Gemological Institute of America certificate #2171449596 states the pearls are Natural saltwater button pearls. During the first decade of the twentieth century Marcus & Co. offered a variety of Revivalist style jewelry. Egyptian inspired pieces along with Renaissance Revival and Mughal style were created. This brooch is composed in sarpech form which were turban brooches that were worn by Hindu and Muslim princes. The venerable firm of Marcus & Co. was established in 1892 by William, Herman and George Elder Marcus with a shop in New York. The firm distinguished itself as an early proponent of the Art Nouveau style in America, of which this ring is an exquisite example. The pendant brooch has 6 cabochon white opals, 63 cabochon chrysophrase stones and plique-à-jour enamel. Suspended from the brooch is an opal and chrysophrase pendant drop. Detachable brooch finding and flip-down bale. During the first decade of the twentieth century the firm offered a variety of Revivalist style jewelry. A pair of American Art Nouveau 18 karat gold cuff links with rubies by Marcus & Co. The Arabesque motif cuff links have 10 round rubies with an approximate total weight of 1.10 carats. The inscription on the back face in Arabic script translates to "Name of God Saves". The double sided cuff links are connected by a figure 8 fitting. During the first decade of the twentieth century Marcus & Co. offered a variety of Revivalist style jewelry. Egyptian inspired pieces along with Renaissance Revival and Mughal style which were created. An Art Nouveau 18 karat gold plique-à-jour enamel necklace by Marcus & Co. The pendant has round diamond accents culminating in plique-à-jour flower clusters with 11 conch pearls. The detachable chain is composed of shaded pink tubular links and green plique-à-jour leaf-form links. During the first decade of the twentieth century Marcus & Co. offered a variety of Revivalist style jewelry. Egyptian inspired pieces along with Renaissance Revival and Mughal style which were created. Marcus & Co. was also one of the few firms in the United States to create jewelry featuring plique-a-jour enameling, a trend very popular in French Art Nouveau jewelry of the time. They also offered the standard diamond and platinum jewelry popular at the time. Each piece was meticulously crafted, and though there are no official documents crediting George Marcus with the design of the pieces, his credits at the Boston Arts and Crafts Exhibition and later Exhibition at the Rhode Island School of Design attest to his design standing.
