Created circa 1900 for Vever, French Art Nouveau opal and diamond peacock pendant brooch with plique-à-jour enamel by Lucien Gautraut is set in 18K gold. The chased and engraved peacock's outstretched wings are accented in plique-à-jour enamel in green, blue and pale tones, with shaped opal eyespots, and round and rose-cut diamond accents, suspending an opal drop. A beautifully modeled and chiseled form, masterfully enameled by Gautrait, this exceptional Art Nouveau peacock is a resonant symbol of this brief and meaningful period in art.

L. Gautrait (1865-1937) was the collaborator of Léon Gariod from 1897 to 1920, for whom he created the models and the carving of remarkable Art Nouveau jewelry, some for the house VEVER
